Every fire begins with a single spark. Trevor Lauman began homebrewing years before it had a name or a direction. What began as curiosity became devotion, and devotion carried him to Oregon State University, where he earned a degree in Fermentation Science in 2015. The craft was no longer a hobby. It was a calling.
The flame was fed further when Trevor and his wife Brittany traveled across Europe on their honeymoon, wandering through centuries-old brewhouses and village taverns before the journey found its crescendo at Oktoberfest. The reverence those cultures hold for beer, the weight of tradition poured into every glass, left an indelible mark. It confirmed what they already knew: brewing is heritage, and heritage is worth passing on.
Three long, relentless years have forged Oak Union into what it is today. Founded by Trevor and co-owned with Brittany, this brewery was built not on shortcuts but on grit, patience, and an unyielding belief that great beer demands sacrifice. Where tradition meets innovation, every batch is both an inheritance and an experiment.
The name itself is an altar to where we come from. Oak honors our roots in Oak Grove, Oregon. But Union runs deeper than geography. It is the binding thread between brewer and drinker, between people and the living earth, between flora and fauna and the soil beneath our feet. What nourishes the roots sustains the tree. What wounds the canopy can render the roots hollow. We are one organism. As above, so below.
A taproom in Milwaukie draws closer by the day, and when those doors open, you'll find more than a bar. You'll find a hall built for gathering, for communion, for the kind of reverence that only a well-made pint can conjure.
